PROJECT 1: PRECEDENT STUDY & ANALYSIS

RENAISSANCE ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT PART A: ONLINE GROUP FORUM
PROJECT PART B: PRECEDENTS STUDIES, ANALYSIS JOURNEL & REPORT

PROJECT PART C: ANALYSIS PRESENTATION BOARD

ARCHITECTURAL CULTURE AND HISTORY 1
ST. PETER'S BASILICA, VATICAN CITY, ITALY
This project focuses on investigating historical works to not just enrich student proficiency in architectural language, design and ideas but most importantly able to develop and honoe students' historical and architectural criticism skills. Through the study of existing buildings, students are able to communicate and expand their own architetural vocabulary and develop design concepts. in a group of 5, students are required to conduct precedent study analysis on specific building through on-line forum discussion, sketch analysis journel, verbal and board presentations. The precedent study analysis project should help clarify questions of "why" the case study is historically, culturally and architecturally importance; and "how" the design concepts derived from the case study can be developed and expanded to be creatively and innovatively intergrated into prospect design project.
Online group forum is a platform for students to work as a team to help each other in exploring the precedent studeis of a chosen building with cultural, historical and architectural significances. Students will be exchanging views, share the knowledge derived from the precedent studies to best grasp and also encourage a comprehensive analysis of the underlying conceptual ideas of the building. The whole aim is for students to gather architectural information, so that they truly appreaciate the essence of the building; have in-depth analysis, as well as recognize the series of important elements and design aspect of the building. Students then post their research according to questions on TIMES WikiSPace discussion forum.
The second phase of the project is to extract information gathered by the team in phase one and putting them into a journel or a report. The journal consists of illustrative and abstractive diagrams, and annotations, which includes clarity drawings of actual and conceptual design ideas of floor plans, building sections, analyses diagrams and sketches expressing and in-depth comparative investigation of a selected case study.
This last phase of assignment requires us to do an A2 presentation board consists of illustrative and abstractive diagrams, dragins and annotations of the precedent study and comparative analysis of the selected case study. Information should be extracted from the previous phase of our assignments and we are required to find as much information as possible according to our assigned building based on the questions given. The precedent study and the analysis board should include actual and conceptual design ideas of floor plans, building sections, analysis diagrams and sketches expressing clarity and in-depth investigation of the precedent studies.
