PROJECT 1: ONLINE JOURNAL ON SKETCHES AND PHOTOGRAPHS

01. GROWS VERTICALLY
Due to the geological issue of Singapore, developers build buildings up taller and taller
to sustain the increase in population
02. MODERNIZATION TAKESOVER
As one of the urban-retail street in Singapore, Orchard Road has been planned as a tourism spot with its modern and fascinating design in building envelope. Curves and technology used in larger scale to promote the advancement of Singapore.
03. INTIMATE MOTION
Wide street allows pedestrian to move freely and in a larger group. During festive season, the dense amount of people, and at close range crossing path with each another causes constant movement.
04. INTERESTING FACADE
Borneo 18 in Amsterdam changes the perspective of people through different design of facades. This is visually captivating and thus creates visual engagement due its diversity.
05. BE STRIKING
The "Sphinx" in Borneo Sporenburg breaks the linearity and the monotonous of the building around the masterplan. This dismantles the repetition of urban grid and thus provide a distinct void to
the plan.

06. CONNECTING LANDS
The Phython Bridge creates a unique picturesque environment due to its organic form and colour. The connection of the bridge between 2 parts of the land allows convenience in terms of circulation for both pedestrians and cyclists.
07. HIDDEN GARDEN
Surrounded by structure higher than normal building heights, the internal courtyard creates a garden which breaks the rigidity of the master plan with landscaping. This also provides a sense of domestic scale for those inhabiting them.
08. EXPOSED CIRCULATION
In Orchard Road, the stairs and escalators are built outside of malls to allow pedestrians to have visual experience and also to move at their own pace. The different layer of stairs and escalators bring connection from one place to another.
09. OUTDOOR ENGAGEMENT
The ice cream business along the street of Orchard Road possesses a significant memory for the residence or tourist visiting Singapore. The contrast in business level creates a friendly yet warming manner.
10. PHYSICAL EDGE
The railway station serves as a boundary between two different levels; mainly the ground and the skyscraper level. The boundary also separates the hard and softscape of a urban city.
11. DAMAGED OPENING
Looking out from the dome from the walkway, shade is no longer taken care of and is neglected. Focuses are on skyscrapers as it now serves as the image of our country. People might only realize the importance of shade when it rains, or when something happens.
12. HIDE THE UGLY
The messy urban planning in KL has causes the building to show its previous ugliness. The treatment on only the street facing facade is superficial as the ones hiding behind are deteriorating.
13. SPLIT OPEN
The little recessed space in between buildings is unintentional as the floor area itself does not allow much to happen. However this unintentional act allows light penetration and softens the rigidity between buildings.
14. CULTURAL LANDMARK
The Kasturi Walk is a street filed with culture of our country. Exchange of culture takes places here, not between businesses but between people. Central market as a landmark also introduces the history of KL.
15. USEFUL BACKALLEYS
Informal activity or vendors set up their business here. This has become a norm among vendors in KL as it reminded the social memory and also brings warmth and familiarity to people, especially when they dine here instead of high class hotels.
